Vela Tango 300 Chair (Heavy Duty, Manual Chair)

Vela Tango 300 Chair (Heavy Duty, Manual Chair)

Overview

The Vela Tango 200 is our largest activity high low chair specifically designed for larger children, teenagers and adults. This particular model has become our most requested chair in the UK mainly because it offers an excellent level of stability for standing and sitting and has an electric sit stand function. In schools and colleges the chair is very popular as a working chair mainly because it can work at low, medium and high desk heights and is small enough to sit next to another chair. The sit stand function can assist teenagers with standing out of the chair and sitting back into it, whilst the strolling frame and large wheels make it easy to cross thresholds and move to different classes. In the home, the chair is commonly used in the bedroom as a desk/gaming chair and in the dining room as a dining chair.

Key Features:

Activity: The most popular feature is the electric high low function because it allows teenagers to access the same work spaces as their peers. Because the chair is button operated it can be used by most children and teenagers. For those who still find it difficult to access, we can move it to a different more accessible position. The chairs also have an easy hand brake which gives the teenagers more control over their environment.

Safety: Whilst we strive to promote movement and independence, we don’t do it at the cost of safety. A core design principle embedded within every feature of the chair is safety. The best known safety features include the extra low weighted base which gives the chair exceptional stability. The chair can be fitted with a four point belt and the extra-large rubberised wheels are designed to hold position on slippery surfaces. The height adjustable arms have an anti-slip function, whilst the footplates allow users to always get their feet on a firm surface during sitting.

Flexibility: We understand that each child has unique abilities and so a key part of the Vela Tango modular design is the facility to adapt the chair to match the child's requirements. Some of the most popular adaptations include: trunk guides, thigh guides, pommels, electric brakes, foot brakes, 4 wheel brakes, incontinence covers etc.  To see a full list of the accessories please see the tabs section.

A chair that keeps growing: Many teenagers are in a period of rapid growth. With this in mind, we spend a lot of time making sure that the chairs we recommend have a growth element built in. Key to this size flexibility is the two degree of free pivoting backrest that can increase or decrease the seat depth whilst maintaining the same reclination angle. Once the teenager has grown out of the maximum size, we can simply change the seat pan and backrest that will give them many more years of use at a fraction of the cost of changing the whole chair.

Frequently asked questions:

How low can you go? The superior electric or manual height adjustment range of the chair will take the seat as low as 40 cm for infant and preschool classroom use and right up to an impressive 81 cm for use at science tables or kitchen counters - or for reaching high shelves or kitchen cupboards.

How can I organise a Vela Tango 200 chair assessment? To help work out how our chairs may be able to help your child, we can offer a Vela chair assessment. This session can be organised during the school day, in the evening or if required on the weekend.

How can I speak to a Vela Tango chair expert? We have Vela chair experts on hand every day who can answer all your questions about Vela Tango chairs. If you want to speak to someone right now please call 0203 051 0157 or email info@ergoability.co.uk and leave your number and a time to call.

Will the chair reach the height of the science bench? Yes, the chair will reach the height of nearly all science benches and desks. However, to be absolutely sure, we can either test the chair on site or if you take a measurement of the distance from the floor to the desk surface we can mock up the necessary height during the assessment.

Can two chairs sit side by side on a science bench? Yes, one of the popular things about the chair is the compact size of the base, which means that you can normally fit two chairs together (side by side) on a standard sized science bench.

Can the chair forward tilt? Yes, the chair has a lever adjustable forwards tilt which allows a forward tilt of up to 6 degrees. This tilting function is particularly helpful for reducing sacral sitting and promoting a more upright position. It is also useful for helping children who want to use the chair's electric height adjustment feature for assisted standing.

Can the chair backwards tilt? The seat pan itself does not tilt backwards. However, we can incorporate a spacer to create a small negative sitting angle.

Is it worth getting a strolling bar? Whilst not absolutely vital, strolling bars can be very helpful for moving the chair around at school or college or even at home.

My child can't reach a standard height hand brake can you adapt it? Yes, we can extend the hand brake so that is will be more accessible. If this is still not accessible we can offer a foot brake or an electric brake.

Will the chair go over thresholds? Yes, the chair will go over nearly all internal thresholds. To ensure you won’t have any problems during the assessment, we will assess how the chair moves about the child’s environment.

Will the chair slip if my client pushes on it when standing up or sitting down? The chair has been designed with an extra low stable base and a hand brake to ensure that it is secure when children are standing up or sitting down. If you have a particularly slippery floor we can also supply a 4 wheel brake which offers extra stability during sit stand/stand sit transitions.

Should we get a Vela Tango 200 or Vela Tango 100? Because both chairs have the same features the decision really comes down to the size that you need. The best way to ensure that you get exactly the right model is to have a chair assessment which can be organised by arranging a chair assessment.

Can you provide a pommel? Yes, we can supply an internal pommel or external pommel. The most popular pommel is the internal version because it is softer and can also be removed or re positioned as necessary.

Can you provide a seat belt? Yes, we can supply a standard seat belt on a Vela Tango 200 electric chair. One of the most popular features of our 4 point seat belt is the dynamic fastening system which allows us to reposition the belt so that it can be optimally fitted to each individual child.

Accessories

Our Vela Tango chairs are modular and can be fully adapted to each child’s needs. We have listed a range of the adaptations that are available under four categories below. If you require an adaptation that is not shown below please contact us.

Accessibility/Independence

Left/right side fitting levers:
You can choose to have the lever based control levers on either side of the chair depending on the child’s needs.

T-Bar brake system: As the name suggests the T-Bar is an extension that sits on top of the brake lever to make the handle more accessible.

Hand brake extension bar: The extension lever is add on feature that extends the height of the hand brake for children who have more limited reaching.

Strolling bracket: the ergonomically designed strolling bracket provides a safe manual handling handle for the chair that can be used by the child or the support worker to move the chair around.

Table tray: Vela table trays are foldable and made from a strong acrylic to provide a supportive, and compact surface that can be folded out of the way when not in use.

Safety

The Footbrake:
The footbrake is a simple to use plantar pressure operated system that can be used as an alternative to a handbrake.

The Electric brake: The electric brake is a push button operated, highly engineered braking system that enables children who have more limited foot and hand control to have more control over their braking system.

4 Wheel brake system: Some tiled and wooden floors can be slightly slippery for chairs and for these environments we can use a 4 wheel extra stable braking system.

Support & Posture

Lateral supports for the trunk:
Using a highly engineered smart positioning system, lateral trunk supports can be strategically placed in a wide range of positions to provide extra support or guidance for the child. The supports can also be adjusted in depth and width to truly personalise the level of support given.

Soft Pommel: The soft pommel can be used in conjunction with the seat pan to help optimise hip and leg position.

Armrests with gutter support:
the gutter armrest provides all the benefits of a standard armrest with the facility to provide an extra layer of forearm support for those who need it.

Backrest with lumbar support:
If a child needs extra lumbar support, it can be useful to get a backrest with a inflatable lumbar support that can be pressurised to exactly the right support level during the day.

Seat belt:
Our standard seat belt has a 4 point mounting mechanism designed to ergonomically support the thighs and hips and reduce sacral sitting.

Footring:
An alternative to a footrest is the footring. The footring does not offer the same level of support as a foot rest, but is more compact and discreet.

Footrest:
The footrest is our most popular foot support for children. It offers a large stable surface for feet when sitting at a higher level and can be folded out of the way when not being used.

Leg Rest:
The leg rest works as a foot support and is ideal for children when you don’t want to use a footplate or footring. Similar to the leg rests used on a wheelchair, they can be swung out of the way when not being used. It is also possible to get the leg rest with a calf support if required.

Headrest:
The head rest can be used to offer an extra layer of support for the head and neck during sitting. The support has a 3 point pivot for extra positional flexibility and offers a soft but supportive padding.

Trunk Harness:
The trunk support can provide extra trunk support if required.

Ankle Huggers:
The ankle huggers can be used to provide extra support around the ankles to help improve ankle and foot alignment.

Thigh guides:
Thigh guides offer an extra lateral support that can be positioned at different parts of the upper leg to help maintain optimal lower limb alignment.

Abduction block:
An abduction block provides medial thigh support for correct alignment of the femur.

Hygiene

Covers for seat pans and backrests:
These covers are fluid resistant and washable.

Get a Vela Chair Assessment

We use a Vela Chair Assessment as a way of evaluating how a Vela Tango Chair can help a child and determining the size and specification of the chair required. The Vela Tango Chair Assessment Service is free and is completed by a Chartered Physiotherapist with specialist Vela chair training and expertise in Paediatric seating.

Our team is mobile and so can bring the chairs to the location that is most convenient to you  and the child. Many clinicians will request that we either visit the child`s home, school or even the children’s development centre to ensure that the chair will work in the environment where it will be used the most. Equally, if you prefer to come to us we have several clinics in London, South London and Kent where a Physiotherapist can take you through all the options.
