PLEASE NOTE THE TANGO 600ES HAS NOW REPLACED THE TANGO 100ES

The Vela Tango 100ES is an electric height adjustable activity chair that has been designed to promote activity, independence and inclusion in children from three all the way up to teenages.

Key Features:

Activity & Independence: The electric powered high low function of the chair enables children to sit at all levels either at nursery, school or at home. When combined with the seat tilt, the high low function can also be used in assisted standing. Because the height adjustment is push button operated it is accessible to a large amount of children who would normally find standing with a manual operated chair difficult. Smooth-rolling castors and plenty of room between castors allow foot movement for those who wish to move the chair unassisted.

Safety: Whilst movement and independence are at the heart of everything Vela do, they also work hard to ensure the chairs are safe and stable. The key to the stability of the chair is the weighted base which has been highly engineered to lower the chair's centre of gravity closer to the floor. The chair also has a lever operated extra stable handbrake system that allows the child to lock the position of the chair when standing, sitting or transferring.

Flexibility: The Vela Tango 100 ES is a modular chair which means it can be fully personalised to the needs of the child including the use of thigh guides, trunk supports, memory foam, pommels, set covers, electric brakes, foot brakes, neck supports, brake extensions etc. The chair also comes in 3 different backrest and seat pan sizes that can be tailored to the size of the child.

A chair that keeps growing: With its unique multi pivoting backrest you can change the size of the seat depth instantly. This allows us to prescribe a chair that will literally grow with the child. Once the child has outgrown the chair's maximum size we can move them on to the next seat pan and back rest up at the fraction of the cost of changing the whole chair.

Frequently asked questions

Do your chairs have trunk supports? Yes, we can supply lateral trunk supports at a range of different height levels. Because our chairs are most commonly used to promote movement and independence, most therapists use trunk supports as a gentle guide for children who need that extra layer of support without any movement restriction.

Do your chair have thigh guides? Yes, thigh guides can be added to the standard chair which can be very helpful maintaining the thighs in a more natural alignment.

What is the pommel helpful for? Some children can have high tone and or tight leg muscles which can make the legs scissor. Whilst the pommels won’t totally block scissoring they can help improve alignment. We do offer a soft pommel and slightly harder pommel depending on the child’s needs – for more information on the pommel options please contact us.

What is the height range of the chair? There are several height ranges depending on where you position the actuator. On the 20cm actuator the ranges include: 40-60cm, 42-62cm, 44-64cm, 46-66cm. On the 30cm actuator the range include: 45-75cm, 47-77cm, 49-79cm and 51-81cm.

Is it possible to position the actuator at different heights? Yes we have the ability to change the height in 2cm increments from 40-46cm (on a 20cm actuator) and 45-51cm on a 30cm actuator? The lowest position can be useful if there are no significant thresholds to move the chair over and the child needs to have their feet on the ground without a footplate. The higher position is useful when you need to access higher positions or need to ensure that the chair can cross slightly higher thresholds. During the assessment we can go through all the options with you.

What age range will this chair work for? The Vela Tango 100 ES can be used with children from 3 all the way up to teenagers.

Do you have the credentials to supply chairs? Yes, our team is run by Chartered Physiotherapists and medical doctors and our assessors are Physiotherapists with specialist experience in paediatric and adult seating. For more information on our medical credentials please see…..about us.

Why is foot positioning so important? If the child does not have a stable foot support they can slip in the chair and more weight will be transmitted through the thighs. We focus a lot on ensuring every child has good foot positioning. We have several options available.

Why is pelvic positioning so important on Vela chairs? It is very clear that pelvic stability is one of the most important factors that will determine the success of the sitting position. Ideally, we try to get the pelvis tilted forwards to a neutral position whilst the spine is fully supported. Vela chairs can be used to facilitate the pelvic position through a combination of memory foam, positioning, forward seat tilting, and a 4 point seat belt.

Can you provide pressure relief seating? Yes, we can help manage pressure areas using a combination of seat contouring, memory foam. Because pressure relief seating requires specialist advice please contact one of our seating advisers by calling 0203 051 0157 or email info@ergoability.co.uk

Why is positioning so important with children? Positioning with adaptive seating directly affects a child’s ability to interact with the world and so we do everything we can to promote activity and independence.

How much can a chair help my child? When prescribed correctly a Vela chair can have a big impact on a child’s interaction with the world. We love it when we can help open new doors for children to explore. We don’t overpromise which is why our assessments are so important as a way of testing how the child will benefit.

Can the backrest angle be changed? Yes, it is simple to change the backrest angle with a pull lever.

Why are Tango chairs so stable? It really all comes down to the base. The weighted base has been highly engineered for stability and positioned so that the centre of mass of the chair is very low.

How long does it take to deliver a chair? Whilst the chairs are made to measure the lead time is still only 4 weeks from the date of the order.

Is it easy to setup a Vela Tango 100ES chair? Yes, setting up the chair is really simple and we have a number of resources to support you with this. For more information on our Vela support system please contact us.

Will we have to put together the chair when it arrives? No, the chair comes fully assembled in a box.

Who will help me if I have a problem with a chair? All the chairs have been built to last. However, like all equipment with moving parts things can get loose over time. Our technical support team are available 9-5pm Mon-Friday to support you with any questions about your chair.

Accessories

Our Vela Tango chairs are modular and can be fully adapted to each child’s needs. We have listed a range of the adaptations that are available under four categories below. If you require an adaptation that is not shown below please contact us.

Accessibility/Independence

Left/right side fitting levers:
You can choose to have the lever based control levers on either side of the chair depending on the child’s needs.

T-Bar brake system: As the name suggests the T-Bar is an extension that sits on top of the brake lever to make the handle more accessible.

Hand brake extension bar: The extension lever is add on feature that extends the height of the hand brake for children who have more limited reaching.

Strolling bracket: the ergonomically designed strolling bracket provides a safe manual handling handle for the chair that can be used by the child or the support worker to move the chair around.

Table tray: Vela table trays are foldable and made from a strong acrylic to provide a supportive, and compact surface that can be folded out of the way when not in use.

Safety

The Footbrake:
The footbrake is a simple to use plantar pressure operated system that can be used as an alternative to a handbrake.

The Electric brake: The electric brake is a push button operated, highly engineered braking system that enables children who have more limited foot and hand control to have more control over their braking system.

4 Wheel brake system: Some tiled and wooden floors can be slightly slippery for chairs and for these environments we can use a 4 wheel extra stable braking system.

Support & Posture

Lateral supports for the trunk:
Using a highly engineered smart positioning system, lateral trunk supports can be strategically placed in a wide range of positions to provide extra support or guidance for the child. The supports can also be adjusted in depth and width to truly personalise the level of support given.

Soft Pommel: The soft pommel can be used in conjunction with the seat pan to help optimise hip and leg position.

Armrests with gutter support:
the gutter armrest provides all the benefits of a standard armrest with the facility to provide an extra layer of forearm support for those who need it.

Backrest with lumbar support:
If a child needs extra lumbar support, it can be useful to get a backrest with a inflatable lumbar support that can be pressurised to exactly the right support level during the day.

Seat belt:
Our standard seat belt has a 4 point mounting mechanism designed to ergonomically support the thighs and hips and reduce sacral sitting.

Footring:
An alternative to a footrest is the footring. The footring does not offer the same level of support as a foot rest, but is more compact and discreet.

Footrest:
The footrest is our most popular foot support for children. It offers a large stable surface for feet when sitting at a higher level and can be folded out of the way when not being used.

Leg Rest:
The leg rest works as a foot support and is ideal for children when you don’t want to use a footplate or footring. Similar to the leg rests used on a wheelchair, they can be swung out of the way when not being used. It is also possible to get the leg rest with a calf support if required.

Headrest:
The head rest can be used to offer an extra layer of support for the head and neck during sitting. The support has a 3 point pivot for extra positional flexibility and offers a soft but supportive padding.

Trunk Harness:
The trunk support can provide extra trunk support if required.

Ankle Huggers:
The ankle huggers can be used to provide extra support around the ankles to help improve ankle and foot alignment.

Thigh guides:
Thigh guides offer an extra lateral support that can be positioned at different parts of the upper leg to help maintain optimal lower limb alignment.

Abduction block:
An abduction block provides medial thigh support for correct alignment of the femur.

Hygiene

Covers for seat pans and backrests:
These covers are fluid resistant and washable.
